STATEMENT OF INTENT

The management of The Tidy Crew recognises and accepts its responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and all associated legislation to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety, and welfare of its employees, subcontractors, clients, and any other persons who may be affected by its activities.

We are committed to providing safe and healthy working conditions, preventing accidents and work-related ill health, and continually improving our health and safety performance. Health and safety is regarded as an integral part of the company’s operations and is given equal priority to quality and productivity.

Overall responsibility for health and safety within the company rests with the Managing Director, who is supported by appointed competent persons and, where required, external health and safety advisors.

This policy sets out our general approach to managing health and safety and will be reviewed annually, or sooner if there are significant changes to legislation, working practices, or company activities.

OUR HEALTH AND SAFETY COMMITMENTS

To meet our legal and moral obligations, The Tidy Crew will:

  • Comply with all applicable health and safety legislation, regulations, and approved codes of practice

  • Identify hazards and assess risks arising from our activities, implementing effective control measures

  • Prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health, so far as is reasonably practicable

  • Provide and maintain safe plant, equipment, and systems of work

  • Ensure the safe use, handling, storage, and disposal of substances

  • Provide adequate information, instruction, training, and supervision to ensure competence

  • Consult with employees and subcontractors on matters affecting health and safety

  • Implement and communicate effective emergency procedures

  • Allocate sufficient time, resources, and competent support to manage health and safety effectively

  • Monitor performance and pursue continual improvement in health and safety standards

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Managing Director

The Managing Director has overall responsibility for health and safety and will ensure that:

  • This policy is implemented, maintained, and reviewed

  • Adequate resources are provided to manage health and safety

  • Competent persons are appointed to assist in fulfilling health and safety duties

  • Employees and subcontractors are aware of their responsibilities

 

Health and Safety Lead / Competent Person

A designated Health and Safety Lead or competent person is responsible for:

  • Overseeing day-to-day health and safety management

  • Ensuring risk assessments and method statements are in place and followed

  • Monitoring compliance and investigating accidents, incidents, and near misses

  • Reviewing and updating procedures as required

Employees and Subcontractors

All employees and subcontractors have a duty to:

  • Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others

  • Cooperate with management on health and safety matters

  • Follow training, instructions, and safe systems of work

  • Use equipment and PPE correctly

  • Report hazards, defects, incidents, and near misses immediately

Any deliberate misuse or interference with health and safety equipment or arrangements may be treated as a disciplinary matter and could constitute a criminal offence.

RISK MANAGEMENT

The Tidy Crew will carry out suitable and sufficient risk assessments for all work activities, including but not limited to:

  • Working at height

  • Use of ladders and access equipment

  • Pressure washing and water-fed pole systems

  • Manual handling

  • Slips, trips, and falls

  • Exposure to hazardous substances

Risk assessments and method statements will be reviewed regularly and whenever significant changes occur. Wherever reasonably practicable, risks—particularly those associated with working at height and manual handling—will be reduced through the use of appropriate equipment and alternative methods of work.

TRAINING, INFORMATION AND SUPERVISION

All personnel engaged in company activities shall be suitably trained, experienced, and competent. Training will be provided in accordance with HSE guidance and industry best practice and may include:

  • Working at height

  • Manual handling

  • Health and Safety at Work awareness

  • Fire safety

  • Use of specialist equipment

  • Asbestos awareness (where required)

 

Training records will be maintained and made available upon request. Adequate supervision will be provided to ensure safe working practices are followed at all times.

EQUIPMENT AND PPE

All equipment will be:

  • Suitable for the task

  • Maintained in safe working condition

  • Inspected regularly in accordance with manufacturer guidance

 

Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided and must be worn as instructed.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

Emergency procedures will be established and communicated through site inductions and briefings. These include:

  • Fire evacuation procedures

  • First aid arrangements

  • Emergency contact protocols

In the event of an accident or emergency, operatives must contact emergency services where necessary and report the incident to management. All incidents and near misses will be recorded, investigated, and reviewed to prevent recurrence.

PROTECTION OF THE PUBLIC AND ENVIRONMENT

The company recognises its duty to protect members of the public and the environment from harm arising from its activities. Suitable controls such as barriers, signage, and exclusion zones will be used where required.

Environmental protection measures will be implemented to prevent pollution, including the controlled disposal of waste and prevention of contaminants entering drainage systems.

MONITORING, REVIEW AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

Health and safety performance will be monitored through inspections, audits, and incident reviews. This policy, along with supporting arrangements, will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, operations, or best practice.

Employees and subcontractors are encouraged to contribute to the continuous improvement of health and safety within the company.

COMMUNICATION OF THE POLICY

This Health and Safety Policy will be:

  • Communicated to all employees and subcontractors

  • Available through company systems or on request

  • Made available to clients and other interested parties where required
