Use your account details to set

up recurring payments.

Here is what to expect after signing up:

1. Immediate Steps & Setup

  • Authorisation Confirmation: Immediately upon entering your bank details (account number and sort code) and clicking submit, you will receive a confirmation email verifying that the Direct Debit mandate has been set up.

  • Mandate Setup Time: It typically takes 3 to 10 working days for a new Direct Debit to be fully set up in the banking system, though it can take longer depending on the company.

  • Bank Statement Appearance: You will see a new Direct Debit mandate in your bank account, usually listed as "GoCardless" followed by the merchant’s name.

2. Payment Notifications

  • Advance Notice: You will receive an email from GoCardless at least 3 days before any payment is deducted from your account. This email will confirm the amount and the date the payment will leave your account.

  • No Further Action: Once the mandate is active, you do not need to take action to make future payments; they will be collected automatically.

3. Safety and Control

  • Direct Debit Guarantee: You are protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee, which allows you to cancel the mandate at any time through your bank and receive a full, immediate refund for any payment taken in error.

  • Easy Cancellation: You can cancel the mandate directly through your online banking at any time, although this may disrupt your service with the merchant.

4. Handling Issues

  • Failed Payments: If a payment fails (e.g., due to insufficient funds), you will receive a notification email. GoCardless will generally not retry a failed payment automatically unless instructed by the merchant.
